I teach piano to students of all levels from my studio in the Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis. Please inquire for rates and availability. My teaching style is unique and is based on some of the following ideas:
- Mutual respect between the teacher and the student is crucial.
- Knowledge does not simply flow from teacher to student; rather, my job is to teach you to teach yourself.
- Music is a creative and expressive art. Creativity and expression need to be present from the very beginning, even when playing scales.
- Music is a physical activity, one that requires good posture and freedom of movement.
- Five minutes spent learning a good habit is worth five hours spent undoing a bad one.
- To play well, you must understand what you are playing. I don’t just teach my students to play, but also to read, write and hear music.
In addition to piano, I also offer tutoring on foreign language diction, music theory and music history. If you’re thinking about lessons, please ask for a free consultation to discuss your goals and ideas.
